Unused Power Steering Pump on Port Motor?
 

Howdy guys.... I've had my 35 Outlaw for 11 years now, and still going strong.

But, I have a question about the power steering components on the port motor. My boat has the Latham steering, and is all on the starboard motor. But, there is still a power steering pump on the port motor which is completely unused. It is fully self-contained and useless. The fluid is pumped from the reservoir, through the pump, then towards the back of the motor, through the power steering cooler, then back to the pump and back up to the reservoir. I have now developed several leaks in several of the hose/fittings. Instead of going through replacing what needs to be replaced, I'd like to just yank our the entire system and replace the pump with nothing but a pulley, so I can keep the same serpentine setup. Is there a direct-fit blank pulley that I can just put there?

As far as the rest of the components, I plan to yank out the reservoir, all of the hose/fittings, and pump. I think I have to leave the cooler intact because that's where the sea water pressure sensor is.

You're sure only one power steering system actually goes to the steering on the boat correct? If so the power steering pressure sensor for the port motor does you no good at all anyway. Oh. It's the pressure for the sea water pump. Not the pressure for the power steering fluid. What if you just switched coolers and ran the starboard power steering through the cooler with the sea pump pressure sensor?

Im guessing the boat has 496's ? not 502's...................hey Kathy, there is no power steering sensor
