Marine Antennas

Looking for a "low profile" or short removable antenna. I have ship to shore, but never installed an antenna because they look so awful.

Who has a sleek setup, or a temp plug in unit mounted to the boat? I need it when hailing the marina coming in bound for dockage, then remove and stow when docked. Cell phone doesn;t work to dockmaster.

Radio signal is line of sight, so the higher your antenna is the farther you can talk. Since your only using it when close, I would just get a hand held.

Tell the dockmaster to turn on his friggin phone. FM radio works with a car antenna laying sideways inside the boat. I don't see why a ship to shore wouldn't also work that way.

I'd get a hand held vhf. I've helped out a couple of sailing events here in Thailand and all the official boats were given hand held units for the day and they worked beautifully.

I'm running the quick release version of the below 36" antennae with a 25w VHF. Works great!

Awesome guys, thanks for the ideas. I think I will try a handheld before I mount anything to the boat. I just need to tell the dockmaster upon arrival, so I can get some assistance. I scratched my boat last weekend and it has me bummed out, was completely my fault though.
