Marine Antennas
Looking for a "low profile" or short removable antenna. I have ship to shore, but never installed an antenna because they look so awful.
Who has a sleek setup, or a temp plug in unit mounted to the boat? I need it when hailing the marina coming in bound for dockage, then remove and stow when docked. Cell phone doesn;t work to dockmaster. |
Radio signal is line of sight, so the higher your antenna is the farther you can talk. Since your only using it when close, I would just get a hand held.

Tell the dockmaster to turn on his friggin phone. FM radio works with a car antenna laying sideways inside the boat. I don't see why a ship to shore wouldn't also work that way.

I'd get a hand held vhf. I've helped out a couple of sailing events here in Thailand and all the official boats were given hand held units for the day and they worked beautifully.

I installed a shakespeare thin unit and really like it.

I'm running the quick release version of the below 36" antennae with a 25w VHF. Works great!

Awesome guys, thanks for the ideas. I think I will try a handheld before I mount anything to the boat. I just need to tell the dockmaster upon arrival, so I can get some assistance. I scratched my boat last weekend and it has me bummed out, was completely my fault though.
