509cid Whippleengine boost and timing?

Hi

Just installed my newbuild whippleengines in the boat and doing some tuning and wonders how much boost and timing you guys runs in your supercharged engines.

The spec for the engines are:
509ci
8,3:1 CR
Dart pro 1 345cc aluminiumheads
Crane Cams 168741 cams
3,3 Whipplecharger with moac intercooler
Cmi exhaust
10psi boost

they run cold 80fahrenheit engine temp and intaketemp 77, do the boating in Finland.

This is how my ignitionmap looks like.

Do you think it would like more timing? It doesnt seems to give the power i would like.

Thanks Bompa

Seems like my picture doesnt shows, but ignition is at 24deg att full boost and over 5000rpm, runs on 98RON gas and AFR at 12.

I think you're about 10-12* short on timing

Are you spinning the whipple to max speed? With your compression and moac you should be able to max out that blower and make 900+

Nope running a 4" pulley now and engines are at 5300rpm. Going to change pulley to 3,625" and boost up to 12,25psi. Max power should be at 5800rpm.
yes they should put out 900hp but sre about 800 right now.

at 5000 and up rpm 34 total advance,12 lbs boost,11.5 afr 900 hp should be easy to find.

didnt know that in Finland there are others that has Whipple setups , ive got 2x quad 3.3L sets and friend of mine has the 8.3L

32 or 34 timing is about ideal... advance the timing and toss a bit more fuel then start messing with pulley...

With our whipple 305 ,,,,i had timing at 32 But kept messing up the gap on plugs ,,,yes had blower plugs ...any way i backed the timing to 28 and ran great and not building heat as much ...go to good vibe racing and in their tech stuff is a lot of good info ,,,lean is mean.and eats parts,,fat is safe and parts live longer just saying ,,got 9 yrs on our 598 whipple spinning 6500,,in a jetboat

I would definitely add some timing in those cells. And I would do that before upping the boost pressure. I myself, would bump it to 30* there, and work up from there reading the plugs. It looks to me like youre bringing your max timing in too early. Id prefer a more linear curve. And of course make sure it is not LEAN. Lean engines do NOT like timing.
