as bup already said, their is no regulator on the fuel rail, that is a pulse dampener.the fuel rail is the same one used on a pickup truck with a 8100 engine.it is very common for the fuel rail to rust on the inside.bup schooled me on this several years ago when i was working on one of these engines.just a fyi, michigan motors sells new injectors for the 8100 engine for 262 bucks delivered to the door through ebay,i just bought a set of eight for one i am replacing the fuel rail&injectors on.

BUP said there are different versions of that injector depending on the year. If I remember right the versions had different number of pintles.

496 has 2 version of the injectors depending on the engine serial number. Please watch out what you buy. And for Michigan motozs injectors can not be selling 8 -- 496 injectors for 262 total. No way these have to be knock offs injectors. I would like to see these in person, The truck side used different LB per hr injector than the marine side and the truck side used a 2 pintle hole injector if I recall correctly

Mike you know I would not steer you wrong. Just saying you better at least let me check them out coming from Michigan Motoz.

I just did the math for the Michigan Motoz 8 injectors for the 496 at $ 262 is almost 21 dollars per injector. No way these are OEM Delphi for the 496. China knock off price.

there is 3 hole and 4 hole pintle injectors for the 496 marine apps. You better make sure you are using the correct injector here, I am telling everyone straight up. Please be careful with what you are getting and make sure its correct per engine serial number runs.

early to mid 496's 3 hole pintle later years used a 4 hole pintle. But Merc If I recall now went to an all 3 hole pintle injector replacement for all . Merc list these for 358 PER ONE injector. Too high way to high.

something not right with Michigan Motors offerings Yes they have 8 so called 496 injectors shipped for 262 but then they have as well. I believe these are the real marine Delphi for the 496 apps .

Mercury Marine Fuel Injector, 8.1L Marine Engines (2001-12) - 881693002 - NEW! | eBay

Will add Michigan Motors really knows not much about fuel injection. I have stores about their customers buying brand new engine packages that would not run correctly. They MM - were clueless why MPI engine buyers of their products were going into guardian mode with warning horn faults after installing their brand new drop in repowers. I knew why and I can go into details about this if needed. I was the one whom discovered why and I'm sure MM fixed it by now after all my findings.
