Plugging oil bypass
Should I plug my oil bypass and if I do what filter do I run? Im about to put the engine in and break in a flat tappet so if plugging the bypass is safe im thinking if i wipe a lobe having it plugged might save the crank???
gen 5 454 relocated filter with -12 AN lines and 3/4 npt on the oil cooler I have the 30 lb bypass valve as well if I should just use it... |
My gen vi blocks had the bypasses plugged
I run wix racing filter |
I have always bypassed mine. 454's and 509's
The 598 doesn't have that option. |
Plug bypass and run a filter with or without bypass built in?
edit: after thinking about it I think I will plug bypass and run wix51060r, no bypass filter 28 gpm, and make sure I have no 90 degree fittings as well |
Mine is plugged and i run a wix racing filter.

Remove the inner valvesprings for break in.
Also, a good idea to pull the valve covers, rotate the engine and check to make sure every pushrods is spinning. If the pushrods isn't spinning while the engine turns over, you will wipe that lobe. I used a 30w break in oil from brad penn, but any flat tappet break in oil with the correct amount of ZDDP will work. I've got no opinion on the oil bypass as I've never danced that dance. |
yeah i marked the pushrods so i can see if they stop spinning, inner springs are coming out as well
