Using air handler fan to dry cockpit
 

For many years I've used an old Dayton exhaust fan (still has the self-closing louvers) hung from the ceiling to help dry the cockpit/cabin/bilge overnight. It's very effective but really noisy. Recently we had new a/c sys installed in the house. I snagged the blower from the old air-handler before they hauled it away. Played with it a while and discovered it needs to have its outlet partially blocked to be happy. Made the mods and currently testing it. Starting to look like it will work good. Anyone tried this before?

I don't always run the fan but if I get caught in the rain or kids get the cabin extra wet, I'll try to dry it as fast as I can to keep the musty smell away. Also if I use the anchor, I'll have wet carpet under the bench seat where I store the anchor/rope. It servers a dual purpose too, like when working inside the boat in the summer.

Why not, I have an infinite supply of blower motors, I mounted a few outside in my boat shed .Work great

Got the modified blower mounted above the boat this week and it's much better than the exh fan. Waay quieter. Got another blower I mounted to a roll around cart. It follows me around the shop keeping me dry.:drink:
