Volvo penta uses the same gm long block and so forth but really never have an IAC failure nor that computer failure either.

The main problem with the IAC s failures used for the 555 controllers are lack of proper maintenance and in return ends up being computer internal failures. Believe me I know. I get more 555 computers sent to me - its close to 4 to 5 per week. Most are IAC internal failures and most of them are boat owners faulty.

Can you explain me what makes a seastrainer to prevent waterpressure senders please!!
Thanks! Michael

sea strainers help filter out crap.

BUP 06-16-2019 04:27 PM

the water pressure sensor gets crap in it from the water that passes thru. Also mineral deposits from the water that collects on them ---- added info on top of.

SB was correct as well.

RMI and EMI interference kills those sensors. Thats why spark plug wires are so important here and especially for the 496 as it crank sensor is installed on the back top side of the engine.

Got a mechanic meeting me Wednesday morning to plug in his laptop to see if he can identify the problem. I will let y’all know what he finds.

Just a thought, I installed a Hardin marine stainless water pump a couple of seasons ago. Could the water pressure sensor corrode from dissimilar metals?

Only if sensor is attached directly to the SS pump

Just got back from lake. Engine is in guardian mode. Recent faults are over speed, gear lube, and IAC. 7 hours ago it had a map sensor fault. Also had a hi fuel pressure fault cant remember how long ago that was.
I already replaced the leaky gear lube bottle, replacing IAC and MAP sensor. Saved all history to a file. Will be clearing all faults and running and recording to laptop to see what happens and see if any faults return.
keeping my fingers crossed.

Engine went into guardian mode 136 times due to previous owner revving motor to limiter in neutral. 200H out of 281 hours where between 700-1500 RPM. Guess the previous owner just idled around and took it out of gear and revved the motor to the moon

How do you remove the muffler in the throttle body for the IAC? My throttle body is close to the bulkhead and it is hard to see. Does it just press in?
