What bbc do I have?
 

Just bought a 98 commander with a new engine from the second owner I bought it from the third owner. Guy said it was a 454 but I'm not sure I cant find a serial number and cant seem to find a casting number either. It has a mechanical fuel pump boss but its blocked off. Oh yeah and it's a serpentine belt

there should be numbers casting block , in front of motor, it would be on right hand side

above wear a oil filter would go if was a street car motor.

u can see how clear the numbers are,,,this is a mark 4 block
dont know gen 5 or 6 are that much different..
you should be able to surf around and get info .

the D14.90 cast in the rear of the block could be April 14th of 1990 in automotive terms, while facing the engine there is a machined pad on the front left of the block where the starboard head bolts on see if there are two sets of #'s there it could be a 454 truck block

Serpentine could be off a 99 or so MPI engine. Alternator on top starboard side.

i will add that even if you had a 330 hp mercury marine engine with this casting number it is a 4 bolt main block.
