Well you guessed it. One head has a cracked. So the peanut port heads are bad.
The machine shop has two sets of Vortex heads off truck motors.
#1 Can I use these Vortex heads as they are setup for trucks. Or do I need to change out the exhaust valves.
#2 Will my stock 330 hp camshaft work with the Vortex heads. . Also the rocker arms and rocker bolts and push rods work off the stock roller cam and peanut heads
#3 Going from 118cc chambers to 100cc chambers will I still be good on 87 octane.

Thanks for the help

The boat was a 1997 so maybe the motors are 1996. The 330 carb was the base power package and the 385mpi and diesel packages where the upper packages.

Would the vortex heads loose bottom end. I for sure don’t want to loose bottom end tq.

You may have the L19 454s with the one-piece rear seal and 4-bolt mains, valvetrain non-adjustable and the provisions for a mechanical fuel pump eliminated.

If you go with the Vortec 1996 and newer truck motorheads they are much better in power and will probably give a little bit better fuel economy. They are made for trucks so low down power should be as good or better.

I would run the vortec heads. If you wanted to go all-in you could hone that single cylinder and change the rings, but more than likely the compression will improve with new heads.

In addition, if you want more power, tuning will do it. This always the part people leave out. It is great!. Get a wideband sensor and make a provision to install the o2 sensor. Jet(or metering rod ) it to be 12.5 at WOT and 13.5 at cruise and 14.0 at idle. Get a 160 thermostat, and advance the timing until you heard detonation then back it out 2-3 degrees. I bet you will impressed with the performance and mpg improvements. I would bet money that doing this will blow the doors of the manifold change. I PM call me it you want.
