External water pickup 24x7 hull

Im putting together a Carrera SS7M with a 454 Mag and Bravo. The transom assembly I got looks like it has a combination of a corrosion restricted water hose and/ or somebody filled the water pass through with silicone or something . I’m thinking of going with an external pickup and sea strainer . I used the search button a little but I was looking for more info or pictures . I don’t have the nerve to drill a hole in the bottom of the boat , so I want a through transom type . I think I like the stainless steel adjustable type from Hardin marine , but I’m open to ideas as far as brand , type etc. Also looking for any input / experience on where exactly to mount it in relation to the V of the boat . The water intakes are still open on the Bravo drive as well ( just an early Bravo 1 nothing special)Thanks in advance .

I think I should have posted this question in the general tech section . Not getting much action here . Through my research I’m thinking about 8-10” from the “ keel “ for the external transom mounted water pickup , then use the water intake system on the drive to make a drive cooler of some kind .

you still want the water to go thru the drive for cooling. on the last super cat light I built I ran the water thru the drive and up and out above the drive and let it dump on the top to cool the upper

Why not just fix your transom assembly ?

How difficult is it to clean your sea strainers when the drive train is in there

with all the boats being parted out
agree to why not just get a good bravo transom assy
they are lots cheaper than all the work and materials for transom pu

Thanks for the info guys . The more I read on this subject I think I will just put a new water hose replace / repair kit in the Bravo transom assembly . Then I don’t have to dial in transom pickup / water pressure etc etc
