Any good threads/videos on Bravo rebuilds??
 

I think I'm loosing the cone clutch as my drive bangs into gear every once and a while... I figure a rebuild can't be that difficult... I've set up differentials rebuilt manual and auto transmissions and countless motors. Anyone know where I may be able to find a good how to?

Did some searching but couldn't find what I was looking for with all the related questions.

I'd like to find a good video too. I know there are numerous special tools needed that you will have to buy/rent/steal or fabricate yourself.

You might be able to find a service manual that has all the pictures and spec's ?? I have an old Service Manual #11 , it show pretty good detail on disassembly and rebuild. I rebuild my pivot pins, bellows, seal etc last year using it.. Pretty easy to follow. Depending what vintage drive you have there should be a manual available. There is a company called Precision Services, AKA, MerCruiser Tools and Supplies for the do-it-yourselfer, they sell a lot of tools, parts and items neede for drive repair.

Do U have the drive serial number for drive? I may have the manual?

I'll take a look and see if I can get the serial number off the drive this evening. It's an older standard bravo 1 drive off of a 1989 baja

Sorry no serial number left on the drive. I tried to figure out how I could look up its series or something but all I know is that it's a 1.50 ration pre 1990 drive.

Your drive would use manual 11 to start with. I say to start because there are some updates which I found could be used when rebuilding my old one. I used some info from manual 28 and compared

With your drive not shifting properly the most likely problem is the clutch shaft/gears needs to be deglazed or replaced. There are many tools which will be needed, so unless your going to continue to use them from time to time, or like me, was unable to find someone local with the expertise, I would have it done.

I spent more then $700 in tools just to rebuild my lower B3

Also note when repairing the different case numbers and gears. There are some Bulletins which cover updates and repairs. All depends on what you have and will need

Thank you! I think I can make most tool I need. Also, since mine is a B1 with only a single output shaft it should be much simpler. I'll see what i can find for a manual.

Yeah, after a bunch of failures I was going to start doing my own as well and that is exactly why I didnt. After you buy all the tools to do an upper and something to hold it, it wasnt worth it.

Pro to fixing your own is time. If you can do it, it may get done quicker than sending it out. You'll also save on shipping and know what's been done.
