Mercruiser water pressure relief valve questions
Howdy. I had a cracked valve body on my Mercruiser water prv. So I purchased a brand new merc valve. On the first test run, I’m noticing that water is squirting out of a machines hole on the top cover. See picture. Not sure what the issue is. I can only see water getting to this hole if somehow water was getting past the diaphram. Anyone have this happen or know what the problem is?
Also, my water prv is pre oil cooler. Been that way for 15 years . The instructions I got with this valve shows installing the valve pre steering cooler. If I was to move my valve pre steering cooler, the oil cooler would see higher water pressure. About 5-10 psi more depending on speed, drive tilt, turning, etc. Would this help the oil cooler to run cooler? Thanks all. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a5bdcad10.jpeg |

The instructions I got with this valve shows installing the valve pre steering cooler; obviously a different motor vs my oil/steering combined cooler. If I was to move my valve after the cooler, pre engine, the oil cooler would see higher water pressure. It has to be a bad seal inside the prv for water to come out of those holes. https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-...rtnbr=863208A3
Installing it after the oil cooler will put more volume of water through the oil cooler. The psi should be pretty much the same since the prv is dumping the extra water right after the oil cooler and pressure is relieved. |
