Can’t make out 502 mpi timing marks.
Anyone have a picture of a new balancer so I can see what the marks are. I can’t make these out.

Look for timing tab basically off of timing cover.

I think the little white mark, and the scratched off paint, represents 8 degrees. I think I can see a zero at the next mark past it, indicating 10. I added some markings to your pic to show you what I think I'm seeing.

Could also use an adjustable timing gun or measure diameter snd do math :)
|
that deep groove is tdc use an advancing timing light
|
And the line scribed in closer to the bottom, that is not as deep, is done at merc for timing at full advance. It would mark 32* in most cases.

nevermind

Don't trust anything, get a piston stop and make sure it's right. If you are running a multi-spark ignition, you will need to disable it to check the timing correctly with most advance retard timing lights. My brother bought a boat and trusted the timing marks and detonated both motors.

Agree, first find your diameter and buy a new timing tape - they are cheap and will most likely fall off sooner rather than later, but will give you a good idea
Next you find TDC using the stop method me too ed above and place your tape accordingly |
That line is TDC. You won’t need a timing tape if you get an adjustable timing light.
|
Very true, just about any auto store stocks a digital timing light and they are cheap enough
