New Steering Cable Install Issues
Trying to get a new steering cable Installed on a baja 302 with twin 454s, but I don't have enough room between the side of the boat, and where the cable enters. The old cable was siezed and I got it out by cutting it. Does the threaded rod shown in the picture easily come out? I need like 1 more inch of room

No, the rod does not come out
The cylinder is mounted to the transom plate. If you bend the lock tabs hold the 2 bolts (top/bottom) you can move/remove the cyinder |
I think I see what your talking about now. That bottom bolt is going to be a pain, pretty sure I feel tabs that need to get bent on that one first too? Even if I manage to get it unbolted it hardly looks like there is enough room to get it out...

Yes that is the bolt.
It's the only thing I can think of that once removed would give some room to move the unit. Dont need to take it out, just move enough to get the cable in |

Workin' on boats, you soon learn that you have to take apart as much as necessary, to get the job at hand done,.... |
It looks like if I get the cylinder unbolted, I will be able to shift it towards the middle of the boat and get the cable in. Now to just figure out how to get the bolts out....thanks baja...
