Intake Manifold Questions

Been looking at used intake manifolds. One is going on a 454 with ported peanut ports that'll run a max of 5000rpm. I've considered using an older Torqer or Holley Street or Strip Dominator. Any experience with these two. I'll be using Splash Zone to bring the port down the intake runner to line up with the smaller port. This is a budget deal to get the most out of what is already there. So new is not in the cards.

The other on a 565 that I'll probably limit to 5500rpm just for sake of longevity. Aluminum heads, etc. What would your choice be. If it was turning 7500 like a rail it'd be an easy choice. Keeping RPM down, yet being a large cubic inch, not sure which way to go.

Opinions please.

Id send Smitty ( Articfriends ) a pm he's done a lot of dyno testing on different intakes and is a wealth of knowledge.

For sure get a dual plane manifold for the 454.

What Griff said...use a dual plane for sure.

Lost of good older options. If you're not limited for height, spacers typically help out under the carb.

Keep in mind, dual plane intakes that have no cutout between the left/right plenums eill want a larger carb. Each side can only draw from half the carb. If there is a gap...it's normally not setup for the best flow through the gap.

What this means...is if you heads flow enough air for thr rpm amd power demand, the carb may end up being the bottleneck in the system.

On the 454, I would NOT run the Torqer or Holley Street or Strip Dominator. A edelbrock performer RPM would be my primary choice, it will out perform the intakes you mentioned in every possible aspect, especially torque. as far as the 565, Ive had great results with the holley / weiand track warrior, for the rpms you mentioned assuming the cam, etc are in ball park too for the rpms you mentioned, Smitty
