Crusader 454 Head Installation

Need to see if there are any tools/ tricks to assist in installation of heads on a crusader. I have the old heads off but because they weigh 75 lbs (Cast iron) installation is a bit more cumbersome.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

You can put a stud in a couple of the bolt holes and then use them to line the head up while you drop it on. You might also be able to fab up a couple of Tee Handles that screw on the rocker studs.

I think I must be getting old because I hate working on iron Big Block heads now days :( Almost need to use a hoist to put them up on the bench :)

I have a set of TEE handles that thread into the valve cover bolt holes. one on upper and one on lower at opposite ends and it is a lot easier to hang on to them when setting them in place.

In a pinch intake and exhaust bolts will work. Dealt with this doing my buddies Crusaders in the boat a while ago.

Above great suggestions.

btw:thank your stars you don’t have dart or mmerlin bbc cast iron heads. Much heavier than the fsctory iron, believe it it-or not.

And it’s wrong. :hitfan::lolhit:
454 headbolts need a sealer, not oil or antisieze
