Thanks everyone for the responses! I think I am leaning towards the pro maxx heads after the discussion, they are a few more bucks than the AFRs, and I will loose the life time casting warranty, but it seems to fit my application better.

What is everyone's thoughts on buying them complete and using the stainless intake valves and included components minus the exhaust valves? I am for sure going to spend the extra on some quality exhaust valves, but it would be more cost effective to use the rest of the included hardware. I would tear them down and go through them regardless, but I am unsure if the stainless intake valve is enough. If I am not using any of the valves, I will just order bare and build up from there. I have not confirmed it, but it sounds like they use REV valves and PAC springs just like AFR, but I need to confirm that before considering that option.

Again, thanks!

Promax IS AFR copy and The assembled heads comes with ridicilous long intake valve, and many Have experienced problems to get The rocker ARM geometry right, with normal aftermarket Rockers. Afr and straubtech sell a trick rocker to solve The issue. The issue can also Be solved by using shorter intake valve, thats what i did and had no problems with The rocker geometry. Ill try to find My notes and check The valve lenghts i used. I bought My heads bare.

The valves i used was Ferrea 6130 For intake. 6296 For exh wich IS stock BBC lenght. Keep in Mind My intake IS 2.3", same lenght 2.25" should work with promax.

Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the ferrea 6000 valve stainless? And comparable to the rev valves that are included with the maxx heads if I were to buy assembled? I am on the fence, there is some money to be saved buying assembled heads, even if I swapped the exhaust valves for inconel. I have confirmed that they use rev valves and PAC springs. I would still need to go through them regardless and check guide clearance. I am a little bummed, buying bare or assembled, I just missed their 15% off black Friday special :(

Yes, The 6000 series IS stainless, how IT compares to rev, that i dont know. Inconel exhaust valve IS highly recomended For marine engines But many Have had good luck with quality stainless valves.

Ferrea 6000, ev8 (21-4n) stainless steel.

I just torqued down my ProMaxx 290 heads yesterday. I am using the same 500 EFI cam on a 454. I had ProMaxx assemble the head using inconel exhaust valves ($500 upgrade per head) and the upgraded .650 lift springs (150/500)

The heads include adjustable pushrod guides and studs, I have heard of a couple guys saying the installed studs are a tad short. We will see

I am using Comp Ultra HD rockers and will be checking pushrod geometry in the next few weeks

Were you able to confirm the clearances provided? A lot of reading in the past was manufacturer sets up clearances too tight for marine use and stick a valve.

Brodix heads are MIUSA and they have some budget ones.
