The 28' Donzi 008 is in a barn up here in Maine. Was converted to a pleasure boat many years ago. The owner has plans to retore it to full race trim.

Thanks You don't know the story of who raced this boat??? That is Don Aronow on the port side of the boat winning the Miami to Nassau race. In those days he both drove and throttled the boat. HORBA board member, Brownie also ran a 28 foot Donzi to win this famous race too. The difference was that on the 007, Don ran straight inboards through v-drives, 2 to be exact. Brownie on the other hand used two inboards, one sitting in front of the other, drivng through one v-drive on a single shaft and prop. He did the engineering, the building, the drivng and the throttling.......how can we compare the old days to today? Check out the thread in General Discussion....Save the Old Race Boats. If you Donzi guys give us more leads on these old 28's, I'll give you more pictures...good deal for everyone. |

Thanks Top! i need to catch up on my history.

What's the story behind the Donzi 008?
If I look at different pictures of 008, it's clear that it's not the Donzi 28 with its 10ft beam, nor looks like 007. It neither resembles the Magnum 27-28 as the nose/bow looks more like that of the more rounded Formula 233's. Is it possibly a stretched 233?? I looks like a 28ft boat or maybe 27... There were also boats built by Formula that were raced and had a 3 number name 271 - 273 ...??? they look alike. Anyone knows the history? Thanks. |
