38 Donzi with Viper Power
Hey Guys, over the weekend I was told about a 38 foot Donzi with twin V10s that was purchased close to where I live by one of my uncle friends. Does any one know of this boat? I believe it came from Sarasota Florida and went to Rustin Louisiana. If so I would just like to see pictures. And if the new owner is on OSO I would like to meet him.
Thanks Guys -Nate |
Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
Not sure what you want to know, the boat was at Xtreme Marine in Lewisville for quite awhile. I'm not sure if it was bought from them or another dealer. I've been around it some, and it is a sweet ride!! Sounds incredible with the V-10's.

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
I really don’t know much about the boat except for the V10’s and the color. I was really just looking for some more pictures of the boat. Sound and looks sweet for what I have seen so far. What drives does it have?

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
Is this the same boat that was at the 1000 Islands run a couple yrs ago? Love the logo on the running surface!

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
Yes, I think that was it. It was tied to the dock on the right just as you came onto the main dock.
I think they had problems with a drive or shaft that weekend..... |

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
Hey Guys,
This is not Nate. My name is Dolph Williams and I am from Ruston, LA. Thanks, Nate for letting me use your login info. I am a Viper friend of Nate's uncle and have never met Nate. Nate, I will see you at the Tickfaw 200 in May. Dean told me you and he would be there. I did buy this awsome Donzi 38 ZR a week ago. I hosted the Mid-South Viper Club Christmas party at my house and had the boat delivered about 30 minutes before the party started. With the V-10s, it was a super hit for all the Viper attendees. I wanted a Viper powered boat because I have 3 Vipers now. I have a bunch more photos of the boat, but I'm not computer savy enough to post them. I'm from the old school. The tag on the boat says it is a 2007 model and was built in June of this year. When the boat was delivered, it was showing 2 hr. on the meters. I see by some of the pictures that it had Teague drives on it at the Dallas Summer Boat Show back in July. I am very good friends with Bob Mason with Ilmor, and he has been very honest with me the whole time. Donzi apparently had a problem that was actually with the starboard drive shaft that was caused by the wrong engine mount being installed from the beginning. The engine mount was changed and it solved the problem. During all this, the drives have been changed to Imco SCs. I put the boat in the water this past Wed. for the first and only time, yet, and it was cold as hell. Boat ran and sounded great. It had 30" props and Gene Weeks from Donzi was with me, and he is sending me 32" Herrings. I will also be at the Emerald Coast Poker Run with it in August, and hopefully others that I find out about. And, now there is a '98 Baja 29 Outlaw for sale that has Procharged 454s and a built in air conditioner!!!!!!!!!!! |
Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
Just to set the record straight. That boat was not at the 2006 dallas Summer boat show. It was at the Dallas 2006 Winter Show. I helped set up the boat at the show. It is a very sweet ride. Congrats on the new ride. I know you will enjoy the boat.....

A few of us from Cincinnati are talking about coming down for the Tickfaw 200. I may bring my Donzi 22 if I have it back together by then! |

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
Congratulations on the Donzi. You will definitely love the Vipers. You know since you own a few of them. They are sweet engines.

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
Can I ask a question of the Donzi owners......
I am in the market for a new boat and have narrowed it down to a Donzi 35ZR and the Formula 353 Fastech. Can I humbly ask your opinions on ride and handling, both will go more than fast enough for my needs, smooth ride and the better built boat is what I am curious about. Is everyone happy with their Donzi's and did any of you consider the 353? I would appreciate your thoughts. Thank you. |
Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
I personally am a Donzi guy.. I can appreciate the Formula's & they do build a great boat too.. Just different strokes for different folks...
If speed is not your concern, One main difference you will notice is there will be more room inside the Formula than the Zr. I like the Zr & cam close to buying one.. I bought a left over new Zx though because of the space.. :) I personally wish they still offered more than just the 28 & 38 Zx.. It would have been cool to have the complete line of zx's in addition to the Zr's so that you can get either boat depending on your space needs.... :) Jamie / Lakeside |
Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
Totally different boats. the Formula would compare better with the ZX. The ZR with same power would be much faster than the Formula. The Formula, ZX and ZR's all great boats it just depends if you want a sports car or luxury car. The ZR handles rough water better than either the Formula or ZX.

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
SDH: The biggest item you have to ask yourself is do I want speed or no, Both boats are built to last Formula is a great boat fit and finish is top notch but speed is not there. T/496 35 Formula is not going to break any speed records at low 70s but she will give you a nice ride. the 35 ZR is built off its sippling the race boat and she is a pocket rocket Kevelar lay up she is a full 35-3 in length and with 496/HO runs out at 82MPH and thats fast with stock power. The other Item you have to look at is resale there are no used 35ZRs out there to be found I had one and she was gone in 2 weeks. All I can say to you is test ride both boats and see what one fits your needs.

Re: 38 Donzi with Viper Power
When looking into replacing my last Donzi I had considered a formula.. Nice great boats, but I still prefered the Donzi and its layout and graphics.. But thats just me.. :) Jamie
