The 35 Zr is a great package. 80mph with 496's in a 30' boat!

WOW it must be fall people are digging up threads from 2 years ago.

I've driven them both. The SSR rides harder than the ZR. The ZR is 10% longer, so the comparison is a little bit out of balance. The SSR is faster. The ZR is more polished in trim, looks, fit and finish, roomieness. I bought the ZR, and love it. The dash is a real eye catcher, but the new hull SSR spanked me so hard I thought he had 525's. I can spank the old hull 32's pretty easily. The ZR is 40' on a trailer, so depending if you're going to trailer, get ready for a big truck and a big driveway. If you're on smaller water, get the SSR, if you;re in some waves, get the ZR.

What engines are in the Sunny? I would avoid the 496s. I'm a Donzi guy but we have a lot of nice Sunsations on Lake St. Clair. I like beating up on the smaller ones with my 525 powered 22 Classic. I think you would do well with either but if it were me I'd go with the 38 ZR (yup, 38!) with 525s.

I agree with thirdchildhood about skipping the 496's......but keep in mind that the Mercury Racing Stalwarth 525's come with a HEFTY PREMIUM.......But worth it if you got the dough!! I believe they are an absolutely sound investment for those of us that feel compelled to run our boats "sticks to the wood" most of the time!!
I Bet your 525 powered 22 Classic hauls AZZ, and sounds awesome with that 525 under your hatch!!! I'm a HUGE Donzi Fan........especially the 22 Classics!!

......But I think a 38 ZR would be much better fitted with 700 SCi's paired with NXT6-SSM Drives.
Actually this is the setup that Craig Barrie (VP of Donzi North America at the time and currently onboard with Statement Marine) was running in his "One of a Kind" 38ZR Comp. that seemed to change colors from Orange to orange/Green depending on which way the sun is hitting it.
