Picked this up cheap at auction a few years ago, threw some fresh paint and parts on the old volvo truck engine and found a slightly newer volvo 240 outdrive - tops out at 51mph, but gets used hard and put away wet.
When the engine goes (which should be in next few seasons) I will look to repower properly and may throw a blackhawk drive on her...has anybody had luck with a blackhawk on Hornett hull? |
Looks good MrCig nice job on the resto. :cool-smiley-011: what power are you running in her.
|
Nice job MrCig!
both boats would make don proud! |
Mr Cig
very nice very nice who did the interior?? that is the hardest part of the resto to find as built-rite is no longer awesome job now you have to get it to lake george ny next june for the donzi classic club's spring dustoff ;) |
Nice Resto!
Enjoy it! |

Mattyboy - have you seen a blackhawk drive on Hornett? I know they used to come on certain donzis but not sure of Hornett... |
Thanks for the compliments
we have owned the boat since 84 and this is the 2nd resto. The 1st. time we didn't have to take the deck off. The motor is a 351 Windsor with a 600 Holley and interceptor manifolds and a 270 outdrive. The Interior was redone about in 93 or 94 by a local guy out of Schereville Indiana. The boat wasn't used much, then we stored it for about 7 years. From what we could tell the original color was white with a red stripe. But it was green when we bought it. Thanks Mark |
Looks awesome. :ernaehrung004:

Way cool!:ernaehrung004:

'hawk never came on the Hornet.. Not sure it would be very effective on that hull..
What's the hull # on the 18? |

boat came that way and I must say it is the most comfortable boat to drive on the body and arms...although it took it while to get used to the shifter...notice the arm and no knob? wouldn't be able to pin it if there was anything on top and it does make it look clean with nothing sticking up.
Mattyboy - have you seen a blackhawk drive on Hornett? I know they used to come on certain donzis but not sure of Hornett... the hornet is a 19 degree hull and a very big boat from what i know if you go to far up on the x dim the boat will ride harsh the black hawk needs a high X and a rocker hull as it a surface drive and can't provide as much leverage or bow lift the hornet is a big boat and needs bow lift so as Scott said a black hawk would not be a good choice an I T S with an ace drive at the right height might be a good start |

Very cool Mr Cig! Bootdaddy, love the look of the Hornet w/o the windshield! I've been a fan of the Donzi Classics for years, owned 7 so far.
Here my old '83 18 23. It's the dog boat, gets used, not worried about the looks much. We repowered it with a MX 6.2 377 a few months ago. All new wire harness, guages, trim pumps etc. New interior is next on the list. They are an amazing little boat! Great thread! Kurt |
