seriously considering one for this season but the kremlin (wife) thinks re-boarding from sea/lake is going to be a major issue,got kids too who may struggle with this-any owners out there advise please.also 425 ho with raised x dimension how fast real world gps?and finally,driven appropriately can they handle a bit of rough-say 2-3ft if necessary?thanks in advance all,

You should see high 60's perhaps into the 70's with that set-up and they LOVE 2 to 3 footers......:coolcowboy:

thanks for that-might be the solution!just not alot of room on transom with tab rams,steering rams,mufflers etc.will investigate further.

My Black hawk edition will do 75 all day, 78 in perfect conditon. Stock 502 efi with Gil Exhaust.

I used one on my 18 & I will probably put one in the new 22. It did work well. I can get them if anyone is looking.. They are built well & stow pretty well under the deck on the classics.. :) Jamie / Lakeside

Sorry Fog, but with the raised X that boat will run 75 all day long. 78 on a good day. 2-3 footers are no problem and 2 footers are a blast to take at speed. Boarding is a problem. Most of us climb the drive but you don't want the kids to risk slipping into the prop so there are options like a mini swim platform with fold down ladder. I modified a universal over gunwale ladder by spreading it open wider and made it fit. All of these questions and much more have been discussed at length at Donzi.net and you can search the questions there. My 22 Classic runs 83-86 and I regularly run it on the Great Lakes. You will love the boat after you learn to drive it. Your wife, maybe not. If you have older sons they will probvably love it too. Daughters? Maybe not. It's a hot rod boat; A guy thing. :) Some of us 22 owners have also modified the under bow area to open up ample stowage room which you will find is not sufficient for a family.

I had a 06 shebly edition 22 classic with 496HO..The boat ran 75 consistently and topped out at about 77...They are the nicest small boats around and will handle the 2-3 without a problem as that what we ran around here..definitely a great boat..I have owned 3 and currently own 1..hands down great boat..definitely a drivers boat..

thanks for the responses,going to take my time and look for a well priced 496ho-out of interest whats the deal with opening up under the bow for more storage.assuming the bulkhead is not structural.the boat would be perfect for a bit more family use if it had more storage or even crawl in snooze space.

I want to add that this mod added only about 15 pounds to the boat and if I pull the carpet out it is lighter than stock. You do not want to add a bunch of weight up front by trying to build anything too fancy.
