WTF !! Is this normal for XR ITS and 525s?

The prop shaft snapped right off and went to the bottom of the bay along with our prop

Australia,

Sorry to hear of your problems. Just to help comfort you, we blew the bottom out of an NXT. Destroyed the lower unit and lost the prop. $$$$

Ok, I am a little concerned about your rooster tail. I run with a couple of 38's with XR's and I don't remember that much rooster tail. So ... are you running with your drives to high where you might be surfacing the props? Just a thought, but take the time to check and mark both the tab and drive indicators with them parallel with the bottom. If you haven’t done this yet, I think you will be surprised to find where your zero actually is. Hopefully you will get some feedback from other 38 owners on where they run from their zero. Or maybe you already have because I remember a couple of your earlier posts. There is another post where a Fountain broke a shaft and the general concern is that the prop is surfacing and causing unusual stress on the prop / shaft. Another thing to check is the height of your ITS. I am not sure on this so I hope someone will post to verify the setup of an ITS. My formula has Stelling extension boxes and you can change the X dimension by changing the bolt on position of the box. If the ITS has this same capability, check to make sure that it is not set to high.

Keep in mind that if you order a replacement drive that it looks like you are running a long sportsmaster lower. I am mensioning this so that you don't just buy a standard sportsmaster off the internet (like ebay) and expect it to work.

Hope this helps.
