my buddy is looking at a 99 28 zx with 350 mags what kind of gps speed can he expect and how does that 28 handel overall. he is going from a 25 sunsation so im sure it will be a big upgrade as they are very small 25' boat.

Thanks

74 GPS i would say. I have a single 454 and a 23P, prop and i run 64 GPS. The nice thing a single over twin in that size boat is the cost to run.

It's a solid 70-72 mph boat. Handles great IMO. Not a real flashy cuddy interior, kinda basic. Fuel consumption? The twin 350 mag setup is the prius of twin engine boats. Doing a fun run with this boat, approximately 90 mile round trip, averaging around 62mph, some stop and go's along the way, burned 33 gallons! that's respectable to me, considering our old single big block in our 24' burned 45 gallons for that same trip and averaged 10mph less.

i have been looking at this same boat.fuel consumption has been my main concerned with.some have said that twin 350 mags are better than say a 502.anyone have true world testing?

I had a 97 27zx with a single 500HP ran about 70, little bit of chine walk but a fun boat. I think if you stay with this "Hobby" long enough you will realize that gas is the cheapest part!)

that i am sure is true but at 6.00 a gallon its starting to go the other way. 600.00 a weekend for gas adds up fast.

Mine ran 70-71 was also a 99 28ZX had to watch the chine walk at 70 , helped to keep the water tank full, they changed the hull after 99 to help , whis I still had that boat, the 525s in the 35 realy like the gas !

Thanx Bajahabuttnut....now go get yer 38ZX and let's go play!

Regarding the fuel on the twins, I can't stess enough how impressed I have been with the efficiency. Nothing against the single big blocks, but I love the handling of the twins. whether it be with docking or up on plane. I do my own servicing and winterizing, so i'm not overly concerned with the maintenance of two motors/outdrives. The speed and handling are incredible! You probably won't be the fastest one on the lake, but 70-72 is respectable and affordable.

I had the same boat 5 years ago, great boat, played with the props got a tick over 70 GPS, per the other post I wouldn't push this hull past 80.

Ptufaro 04-20-2011 09:49 PM

I had one with the same power it would run 72mph on GPS.
