i have a 18 with a 383 pushing 415hp but with a blackhawk drive 31 p props gps 86mlp and still climbing.with that kind of power you will be up in the 80's also.not sure of your drive though proping might be hard.hope that helps craig have fun.

Fenderjack 12-18-2011 02:45 AM

THEJOKER 12-18-2011 08:43 PM

Wow.......we're building a new 18 Joker now. We bought the molds from Python and they're very similiar to your 18 Donzi.

ZXXX Donzi 12-18-2011 08:46 PM

My x-18 has a 383 mag bravo package and it runs just over 70

Fenderjack 12-18-2011 11:18 PM

What kinda power do you think that 83 is making?

John jr

osur866 12-19-2011 05:38 AM

My Whipple Charged 18 runs a tick over 90 and I'm still dialing it in, 600 HP with Bravo -2" Imco shorty, the deep TRS drive is gonna cost ya a few mph's but 500 hp I think you'd be in the low 80's with that. If you don't have hyd. steering on it your crazy to drive these above 70 without just sayin. Steve

Scott B 12-20-2011 05:15 AM

X-18, TRS with mild 383 (est @ 400 - 410 hp) runs true 73 all day long, 76 - 77 with Mirage plus...

BUT, X-18's are faster than regular 18's... :) ;)

350 at the crank.

craigdskilling 12-20-2011 07:13 PM

What is different from the x18 than a18.Also the 383 with the bravo will be slower than a blackhawk with the same hp.surface drive compared to a bravo none.

IRONMAN 12-23-2011 08:16 PM

A friend had a 500 TRS 22c that ran low 80s gps so the 18 should be good to go I ran an 18 454 400hp volvo at 75 on the nordscog so it was probably 73 really nothing fancy but the hill prop, external steering and hydro nosecone.

Wow, what boat is that?

olredalert 01-02-2012 06:58 PM

-----The year...1979. I lucked into a brand new leftover X18 powered with the 330/454 TRS package. The boat would do 70 absolutely stock down to the prop. I found out talking to John Chisholm (DONZIs owner at the time) that they only built a few big-block 18s as they felt there might be a liability issue. Drive was very deep and the boat would heal way over in a sharp turn at slow speeds. Enough that the boat would take on water into the cockpit. Wife wasnt exactly thrilled by the boat so I traded even up for a brand new 1980 Corvette.......Bill S

Settle down Carl...........:lolhit:

In reply to the OP, I once owned, seems like many moons ago, an 18C with a 377 Scorpion, I put an Imco 2" shortie on the Bravo upper, 17" Dana tabs mounted horizontal to the hull (still taking flak for that) hydro steering and ran a 25P Mirage Plus and saw mid 70's on a regular basis....IMO the secret to the Donzi 18 hull is BALANCE.........decent power (small blocks with high HP seem to work better than big blocks, I guess due to the weight and CG...?, suitable outdrive, hydro steering and tabs.....I learned early on that the 18s can be a handful but with seat time they are a treat to run.....good luck if you proceed with the build..............:coolcowboy:

Here it is, and to say its fast would be an understatement. more like scary lol. i think thats why its called the mailman because you have to be postal to drive this thing.

Man you can hear that thing come for like 10 miles lol its more like a 22 Donzi's hovercraft cause theres no boat in the water when he opens it up.

bor 01-05-2012 02:45 PM

how about the famest one whit the arneson on it if I remember correct somewhere around 120 mph !!

osur866 01-06-2012 03:46 AM

These lil boats are a blast to run, however when you go past 70 in the 18 Classic set up and seat time becomes very, very important, and you had better respect what they can do!!! I've transformed my stock 70 mph 18 into a well handling 90 mph boat, just remember to always wear a good life jacket and lanyard and respect what they can do!!!!!

Tried to drum up interest on another site, but fell flat. Whoda thought... :grinser010:

It is actually...what happened? The core classic guy's can't decide whether they want to lead -follow- or just bounce around aimlessly. :drink

what's the most power we can put in front of an Alpah One Gen 2 outdrive? I have a built up 454 with 400+ HP. Do you think the Alpha One can handle it?

Yes if you take it easy, no hole shots, lower pitched, 3 blade props, back off on air, etc.
