Need to retro fit A/C in 33ZX

I have an '04 33ZX and need to install A/C. Has anyone ever done this? If so, what kind of unit do I need and where did you mount it?

I have the 2000 33 and mine is unded the v birth bed I sill have to look up the unit. If was I. When I got the boat

Do you know if the water pickup and shutoff valve is right there at the ac unit or in the back of the boat in the engine compartment? How about the discharge? Is it coming off from the ac unit right there at the unit or ran further back in the boat? Thanks

pickup just fwd of port engine. water pump and strainer in front of port engine, ac unit under V berth, outlet on starboard side of v berth.

My unit is an ocean air reveese cycle unit that's all I could find with out going to the boat

Liquid Addiction 01-09-2014 07:00 PM

That's a good start for me. I'm thinking about getting a 6000btu unit. I am hearing about $3k for the install. I guess it will be worth it come august. Thx for the info

I boat from april to November so I use mine a lot ac and heat....

Liquid Addiction 01-15-2014 05:27 PM

So decided to go with the ECD6.5btu by Dometic EnviroComfort Air.
There is a dealer in Chesapeake,VA called Lamy Marine that will install the system turn-key for $3700. It is very pricey, but I'm sure come 90deg + heat in the summer I will be thankful we went ahead and did it. Only thing that bothers me now is I will have very little storage space if any.

If u don't have the ice maker next to the fridge u can cut in a door like I did and gain a bunch of storage there is a lot oc space under the counter.

Liquid Addiction 01-15-2014 07:23 PM

I have a cabinet under the sink and then an ice box on the counter top to the right of the sink. I'm not sure there is much room under the ice box. Are you saying try and put the AC unit at this location?

1989mach1, do you have a picture of the cutout and install? I have the same boat as well and was thinking about doing the same. Thanks

I am actually going to the marina next month to meet the installer to discuss what my options are. I will update this site once we confirm where the unit will be installed. I am going to try and see if they can put the freshwater intake and filter under the step for easier access. There is a bilge pump there now.
...I cant hardly recover a dropped screw when I'm sober let alone try to access a clogged sea strainer filter while standing on my head after having a few Lol.

I will look through my pics

1989 mach1...... was that all empty space prior to the ac/door install?

Liquid Addiction 03-23-2014 09:01 AM

Dropped the boat off last Thursday at the marina to have them start installing the a/c. Should be picking it up this Friday baring there are no complications. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Yes it was all open. The amp is mounted on that side wall so also gave me a way to get to it with out takin the fridge out.

Good news got the boat back and everything looks great.
They put the AC unit in the v-berth storage area. The duct work was ran around to each side of the seating areas and brought up where the cup holders are in the shelf behind the seats. The cup holders were relocated to accommodate the vent. As for the water pickup and seawater strainer, this was installed under the step into the cabin. They had to cut an access hole under the sink to fish the wires and hoses around to the unit. They plugged the hole with a round cap. I also had them install an in line condensate pump to pickup the excess water that will build up in the drain pain on very hot days. All in all it looks great and can't wait to get on the water!
