Looking at Donzi 28zx (series) 1998-2001 Twin Mags. Price Nowadays??
 

I've been looking for some time for a performance boat, first at 24' Baja Outlaws and 27' fountains. But I fell in love with the Twin Engine Donzi 28zx. The year and price which appear to fit my budget is the 1998-2001 years. The prices in this range seem, for the most part, to linger around $32,000-$38,000. But there are alot that are well above that range some even closer to $50,000(around $45-$48k). I wanted to know the average market price for a 98-01 28zx with the twin 350 mags with less than 400 hours and a trailer. Also if there are any owners out there with any comments they have about this boat I would greatly appreciate your thoughts on the matter.

The '98-99's are all together different in the cockpit, deck and cabin than the 2000 and newer 28ZX's. Great performing boats, love the twins, and very fuel efficient. we have owned our 2002 since i was drunk and on ebay memorial day weekend of 2008 and have had no regrets. easy to maneuver in the water and trailer. I have an 01, I love the boat! but I have the bug to go bigger. I am not ready for a couple reasons. One reason is of course money, I am so happy with my boat that for me to replace it with something bigger that looks as good (my opinion) and is in as good of condition (not just my opinion, fact I've looked) I would have to spend somewhere in the 100k range. So when someone comes along and tells me my boat is only worth 35k... I'll keep it for a few more years...

I have talked to people that sold their 28zx to move to something bigger, and later wished they would have kept the 28zx. To be honest I am somewhat afraid that might happen to me, I have owned 12boats in my life and other than the Kona Jet boat that I still have 20years later this ZX is my favorite.

I listed my boat in the 50k range and had people call me and try to compare it to similar sized single engine boats to talk me down on my price... there is no comparison... I know guys with the 29 formula's that feel the same way. My point is they are really good boats. Good luck with your search.

Love my 28zx. There's a 99 here in Texas listedin boattrader for 32,000 looks nice.

Duke makes a good point (not that I ever doubted you :) ). My wife and Kids and I love our 28ZX! In about 4-5 years or so, we'll probably sell our house here in Leo, IN, keep the lake place in Angola, IN, and buy a place down in Florida on some waterway and get a 38ZR for that place. The 28ZX is a great size for our chain of lakes and having twins for going out into the Great Lakes, Ohio River or Lake Cumberland is a nice peace of mind. My Friend in the Donzi Club just bought a 43ZR with twin big power last year and still intends to keep his 2000 28ZX. I told him famous last words, but he loves his 28ZX. The cabins are not as flashy as a Fountain or some others but we don't spend much time down there anyway unless were sleepin or, uh, somethin else :)

I had a 28zx single Big Block. Was a great boat, ran it all day full throttle and it wasnt as bad a twin on fuel it seemed still ran a strong 65-67MPH. Had 360hrs on the motor and 780+ hrs on the boat. Like i said it was great, if i could go back I would have kept it, not because i dont like my 38, but it got more use. I used to at the local lakes around my house as well as the big water. Where i cant use my big boat on the local lakes

As for price... It's condition based mainly at this point. Hours factor in to a degree but a really low hour boat can have more headaches than a well maintained higher hour one.

Also keep in mind the 27ZX, that was out just before the 28ZX, has the same hull but generally they are single BB instead of twin SB's however, IMO the newer deck style is more timeless and will hold the value better over the long haul.
