Donzi Classic 22 Construction
I sold my Sonic 31SS , and now I am between boats.
I have always liked the Donzi 22 Classic. I am taking a year off from boating. So I am in no hurry. If I were to buy an older Donzi classic would I face any problems with the stringer or transom rot. Did Donzi use wood in the construction? |
Yes the older boats have wood in the stringers and transom. My 96 does for sure, but I'm not sure about the newest versions.

From what I have seen Donzi started switching to composite around 1999 / 2000 on some models. My 99 zx is composite transom and stringers and my buddies 05 22 classic is too. I know for sure my 1995 22 classic had wood.

My 2005 has composite stringers and transom, solid glass hull, coring in deck, floor and engine hatch.

I've owned 4 22 classics
1987 460/Cobra drive wood 1987 454/Alpha limited Edition wood (currently own up for sale) 1992 454/Cobra drive wood 2006 496HO/ Bravo Shelby Edition. No Wood All have had no issues with rot. All are well built and best bang for the buck. Nothing like a 22 Classic Donzi.. Joe |
Had to have the stringers/ transom re done on our 96 22' Blackhawk. THe drain holes drilled through the stringers next to the transom were never glassed in and rotted over time. Ended up causing the stringers to rot so bad that the engine mounts collapsed. Ended up being about $3 - 4,000 to repair if I remember correctly
