Broken engine hatch mirror...

Well I'm glad it's the only thing that broke on that ride from lakeside Marblehead to put in bay. Forecast was 5-8s out of the NNW and winds gusting 15-25kts. We dropped in around 6:15 and chase daylight to get across. I hit some monsters but never took one over the bow. Lots of spray. Lumped it about 20 mph for the first 8 miles before I could get the protection of the island where then I could run 30-40. When pulling the camper too out of the engine compartment I notice a mirror cracked from the ride over. Anyone have any suggestions for replacement, I didn't see anything on Donzi direct.

Matt

I may tackle this one on my 28 this winter. They are old and cracked. I think it is just 1/8 or 3/16 mirrored acylic/plexiglass/lexan. I haven't had mine off yet. Abrasion resistant would be nice so wiping it down doesn't scratch. I have been shaping and drilling the acrylic screens for my old racebikes for a few years with good success. Enough to think I could make a set of match mirrors as good as what is in there. The acrylic is pretty soft and does scratch easily which is why I think one of the others might work better. I'll keep ya posted.

It was no doubt the biggest chit I've been in. Add the fact it was almost dark and late October it was a risky trip. It was the first time I felt like I had made a bad decession. Boyne Thunder was rough this year but it was daylight warm and plenty of people around in case of an emergency.
