43ZR owners, tow vehicles??

I had a 2500HD Duramax to tow my 38ZX and upgraded to a 3500HD Duramax because I thought I would need it for longer trips. The ride of 3500 is horrible where I live thanks to our horrible roads. I bought a little BMW 3 series to drive to work but the extra expense is hitting me hard in the wallet. I was thinking about selling the BMW and dropping back down to a 2500 for tow and daily vehicle, my only concern is if I decide to upgrade boats to a 43ZR will the 2500 tow it comfortablely. My 2500 towed the ZX fine but I'm not sure how much difference is between the 43ZR and 38ZX.

Any thought?

I haven't towed either, but simple math tells me you're going to be pushing the limits of the 2500, going from a 38zx (13,000lbs) to a 43zr (twins or trips?, 15,000lbs+). The 2500 could definitely pull it, but I think airing on the side of caution is always wise and I wouldn't want to be on a wet/mossy ramp with the 43' boat without a dually, too much weight for too little grip, IMO. A 43' with fuel, water tank full, tools, toys, spare props, trailer, etc...you've got to be close to 16,000lbs. I'd stay with the your current setup, but maybe downgrade the BMW to something with a smaller payment. Good luck!

Agree with Mullen. Keep the dually and downgrade the commuter car

Always better to more truck than needed in case of emergency stopping

Lower the air pressure! on my dually I run 70psi front and 50 rear and its fine. and it doesn't hurt the tires at all. at least when not towing long distance.

I have a 35 ZR with a 2500 and I wouldn't be comfortable pulling a bigger boat with it. It's a great setup currently but if I went to a bigger Donzi, I'd need a bigger truck.

We tow the 43 with a 3500hd. I don't think you should go any lighter.

We have a 38Zr, and a 44 foot Myco trailer. Bought a new Ford F350 Diesel 4x4. Tow back and forth Michigan to Florida. Works great.
