Hey ZR guys,
The white masthead light washes out your night vision, during night ops. Anybody come up with a fix, or some kind of shade underneath the light so you can maintain a little bit of night vision?
thanks Doc |
Not sure if you know this but the correct masthead light has a 2 position setting where you can change the light from 360* when anchored to just the forward portion of the light not to blind you when under way. This is done from the dash switch.

Ok
This will sound cheesy but I took a cheep frisbee Cut a hole in the middle so I could screw the lens off Put the frisbee on the base and screw the lens back on It was big enough to throw a shadow over the bow so you could see better at night And other boats can still see your light I'm sure something better could be made to do the same job |
Thanks I will double check the switch. We haven't really used the boat that much at night but its worth double checking. AND If I have a single throw switch instead of a double throw, the Frisbee might be the solution as well. Thanks for your thoughts.

When underway, I'm pretty sure you need to display port and starboard running lights (red and green) and a clear stern light with an arc a bit less than 180 degrees.
I think that dual mode masthead light is designed to offer the stern (clear) light when underway or the full 360 degree mode for use as an anchor light. My Fountain was set up that way and so we're my last couple of Sea Rays. Here's a wild guess but neva satisfied, you may have your light the wrong way round..... :) RR |

That would technically work but will be annoying as hell for you if you need to move around.

@ neva satisfied, sorry about my earlier post, your masthead light may not be on backwards!
Did some searching and although mixed results, some say powerboats should run a forward facing light while underway, but may be dependent on boat size. News to me, I've learnt something today. :) I quite liked these illustrations...... RR |
