I've been looking at a very nice 28 zx scorpion, seems like a perfect boat for me (looks, size, speed), as well as a fountain 27/29 would be...

I can't find any test numbers on the boat (scorpion) though. What I need to know is the fuel consumption since the boat would be used in Finland where the gas insanely expensive... On another forum I read about 3 MPG at cruise speed but find it very hard to believe. I would appreciate an honest answer if anyone has experience?

Other opinions about the boat(s) are also welcome, especially concerning Donzi vs Fountain.

Bought a 28zx Scorp a little over a year ago, its a great boat, I think you'll thoroughly enjoy it. As far as the boat goes, we live in Miami and the boat does great on the bay, anything below 3' and she handles it like a champ. When we try to run offshore, its hard to keep her in the water, really need a 38' hull or longer for the offshore stuff, but lakes and bays are no problem at all. The hull is good until the mid to high 70's and then she'll start chine walking as you approach 80. I don't have the best numbers for you on fuel burn because we have supercharged 377's which drink like a mofo, but I'd think 3MPG might be a stretch, I think I can get roughly 1.5MPG with mine.

Fountains are good boats, might pay a little less for one than a Donzi, but also remember to subtract 2' from your hull with that beak. A 29' is more like 27'....less running surface.

Since you are from Finland, what's the story on this Comp? Though I can assure you that it won't get 3 mpg. :)

Thanks for your input MullenTJ86. It's hard to choose, but an even bigger challenge will be to get the boat to Finland... Does anyone know any reliable agents located in the NY-area that could check the boat for me?

All i know about the "Finnish" Donzi is that they picked it up from Italy about one and a half year ago, fully renewed the interior and engines and did some exterior work. It has a beautiful finish now, looked a little shabby when they got it. They happened to pass our summer house last summer when we were swimming. Man it was beautiful! A sight for sore eyes, and a sound not for sensitive ears 😜

I am talking with him at the moment to get a boat to Thailand and I've been pleasantly surprised. :) Don't give him your life story, stick to the facts. His return emails are typically 1 or 2 lines and accurate.

I've got a 2000 Scorpion, and while I've never done the math, I have to think that 1-1.5mpg is more realistic... I *really* wish this thing had a bigger tank too... 90 Gal (of 93 octane) just doesn't lend well long days blasting up and down the river. I still love the boat though. The Scorpion engines are awesome small blocks!

Does it really drink that much? Twice as much as a Fountain 29 with 525 hp (2,9 MPG according to Boat test)

I don't trust any of those boat tests, they are never realistic for every day users. If you can confirm 2.9mpg, I won't argue with your numbers, just not a magazine.

I also think that 2,9 MPG sounds a bit optimistic for that Fountain...

But anyway, I have new problems. EU came up with a new emission regulation last year, which requires CE-markings for all boat engines. Manufacturers did not use CE-markings before 2006. This means that It would not be possible to register a Donzi with Scorpion engines from 2000. Nice. So, the engines has to be swapped to get the boat registered over here. I thought about throwing in a pair of 383 strokers which would solve the problem. But it sounds kind of expensive, it depends on how much I could get for the old Scorpion engines. Does anyone know?

Isnt there a way to get a CE certification on a stock Mercry engine?
