28Zx Repower
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on here, but the Donzi was paid off so I figured I’d do a repower. I popped a head gasket last fall and had erosion on the head and block so I figured what the heck, I’ll go all-new and called Jeff Harris. Jeff built me a set of 383’s and after a little finangling - engines are making 435hp and 470ft-lbs of torque. Did my initial sea trial this morning in a local lake with approximately a one mile run. I’m hitting an initial 76mph at 5100rpm and running out of lake. Boat is still accelerating when out of real estate. Props are stock Mirage Plus 23P’s. Lots to work on in fine-tuning. Going to take it to open water tomorrow on Erie and see what she’ll do. This hull likes about 1’ of chop plus there is now a learning curve with this combination that I’m going to need to figure out. Maybe a good place to start is with a similar setup as a scorpion edition. |

A close friend had an 06 28ZX with Holley supercharger dynoed at 450hp. It ran north of 84 mph It was a handful after 80. Did you consider big blocks? |
Negative- too heavy for the boat. Thought about doing carbed LS’s though. These small blocks will work out just fine. Lots of things to work out on the boat to get it there, but otherwise initial impressions are pretty favorable. |
The 28Zx is my dream boat.Did Jeff rebuild your existing blocks with new heads, intake and carbs ? What year boat ?

Good morning Shag555, Stew here. Did you look at the LS engines from the various folks that marinize them? Like kodiak or engines from Michigan motorz? or are you more into do it yourself ? cheers. Stew |
