1989 30' Donzi Black Widow

I bought this boat a couple of years ago and have been slowly trying to improve it.
When I first got it one motor wasn't running, the other was running very poorly. Turns out both issues were relatively simple ignition problems.
This boat appears to be the very first in the Black Scorpion line in 1989 as the HIN has a 001 in it.
Based on some historical internet searches, the boat was originally from Florida and had the name "Mystique" (it can still be read faintly on the hull).
I'd love to hear from your if you have any historical information or photos from this boat.

I've been able to figure out that it started in Florida, made it's way to Canada in 2010 and is currently in Vancouver, Canada (where I live).

The boat has twin Gen IV Merc 454s and Bravo One drives from that era, which is unusual as they usually came with OMC drivetrain. Perhaps this was supposed to be the prototype?

What also makes it interesting is the unusual exhaust configuration, where all four outlets are routed to the middle of the transom, instead of either side of the drives.
It also has a lot of room (relatively speaking of course) between the motors, which makes it much easier to service.

Anyways, I hope to get her in the water this summer. I'll keep you posted!

I love it.!I always wanted one or the crossbow. They were out of my reach back then. I had a similar vintage 16 Donzi with the king cobra. Then a 22 Blackhawk. One of my neighbors has sitting for years under the pine trees in his yard waisting away hull#1 21 ft Z series. Original owner. I have approached him to sell it but no dice. It kills me, just waisting away. ..... get out and enjoy it she’s a beauty for sure!!

I believe the hull is the same as the Z-29 but has a different deck. OMC bought out Donzi sometime around 88 but they still and several Mercuriser packages around so they installed them until they had no more.

I know how it feels! I was trying to buy a 30' Scarab a few years ago and the seller had it parked, uncovered, under some trees. Leaves and pine needles all over the inside of the boat. Ugh. We couldn't agree on a price at the time. A few years later I saw the same boat parked in someone's driveway, also uncovered. How hard is it to set up a cheap canopy and just cover the cockpit and bilge. LOL.

Thanks for the info!
I tried calling Donzi support a few years ago and they said that they had no records of the previous company operations and couldn't help me with any info on this boat.
I guess once a boat manufacturer has been bought and sold several times, records and history tend to disappear.
I'm glad for this forum and the old school knowledge that remains and gets archived where anyone can search for it! :D
