1999 38ZX 525sc????

I am looking at a freshwater 1999 38zx with 525sc's. I was wondering what kind of performance I can expect, how do the Bravo 1's hold up to the power? Anyone with any suggestions, tips, or things to look for would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Lonestar

Hello Lonestar,

I don't know of any for sale at the moment. 525'S with bravo ones is a problem not gonna be a great set up. You will have to be very carefull with that set up easy out of water take off's no hole shots.

Good Luck

David

Yes, be careful with the bravo I's. They only last if you are an angel with them. Keep her in the water, and don't jam the throttles when your getting the boat moving.

I don't think the 525's in the era were a bullett proff engine. A 99 38 with 525's was for sale at the Lake of the Ozarks for over 2 years before they were able to move it. Most of the potential customers did not like the power set up in the boat.

that is my fear, I remember two diff. 99's with 525's that lasted forever before they finally sold. Lake Port had one with slipstream graphics, and Big thunder had one as well. Both boats were around for a good while.

If you can, send some digital pics to [email protected]
I haven't looked at many 33's, but wouldn't rule one out for the right price.

Hey Undertaker,
Right now, I am really wanting a boat with 500's. I love the graphics on your boat, but my wife didn't care for them.
Good Luck in selling!!

Ok but if you and your wife change your mind let me know, its a great boat at a great price and the twin 496 motors will give you the same performance until you get to the very top end. I drove a 33 with 496 and a 33 with 500's and the only difference I noticed was at the very top end same hole shot and mid range punch, i went with the 496 because of warranty issues ( 5 yr. Z Care) and more fuel efficent. 496 motors cost 15, 000 each 500's cost 25,000 each to replace. Just my two cents. Good luck in your search

I had a 99 38ZX with Bravos 1's

100 Hours, no probs. Boat did in the mid to low 80's

Got off of plane real well.

It's a ton of boat for the money.

Scalp,
What motors? 500s or 525s?

lonestar382 11-20-2003 08:41 AM

If he was seeing true 80's, I am gonna guess he had to be running at least 525's. From what I understand, the 99-2000 38's were built heavier than the 01-04 years. If he was seeing mid 80's on a pitot type Speedometer, then he was probably in the high 70's. Which isn't too bad considering the amount of room in the 38's and the size of the boat.

525's

They ran like champs

mjpcowboy 11-22-2003 09:58 PM

Undertaker, I would have to respectfully disagree with the 496's vs the 500's. Big difference in hole shot, mid range and top end. The 500's still have the 5 year warranty as well. I have had both and have put several hours on each. I do agree that the price difference is a bunch but so is the performance.

Undertaker 11-23-2003 08:12 AM

The 500s have the five year warranty but I have been told that the max you will get for warranty wise is 15,000 and the cost to replace the 500 engines is 25,000. Dont get me wrong the 500s are a sweet engine I felt the 496's gave me good bang for the buck.

mjpcowboy 11-23-2003 11:08 AM

No question the 496's give you more bang for your buck, however the 500's give you the extra kick that you can appreciate in the 33zx. Just my $.02
