33ZX Speeds and Rough Water Capabilities

What are the expected gps speeds with 496ho's.

Would a better choice be 500's?

The 33 has a 22 degree deadrise. How does this work in rough water. Most offshore boats are 24-25 degree. How does the z-tech held this lower degree? I had a baja with a 21 degree deadrise and it handled ok but not great.

I have a 33ZX up here in Lake George with the 500HP EFI's, the boat runs a solid 78-79+mph on my GPS with labbed props. I am not quite sure exactly what the 496's do. I have been reading about 70mph. The 33ZX ride is awesome, my boat crushes the 2-3' waves that Lake George puts out. If your in the marketfor a 33ZX my 2001 with the 500's is still for sale. I certainly would offer a test ride, seeing that your only 2 hours away. Good luck.

If you can afford the price difference go with the 500's every time. I have had a 33 with 502's and now one with 500 EFI's and the difference is amazing. It acts like a completely different boat. The 500's really wake the boat up. Low 70's with 496's and high 70's with 500's but that only tells part of the story. Out of the hole and mid range improved a great deal.

I have 33ZX Daytona that runs 83/84 MPH with twin 500EFI's. If you have the means, you should certianly get "blue motors" (500's or 525's). I have never heard someone say....man....I wish I'd have gotten the smaller motors.

I think the boat runs best in rough and chop. I'll take a 1-2' chop over smooth any day. The 33zx is a great rough water boat.

You might want to CHECK your speedo. I think its being a little generous to you. 77-78 on GPS all day with 1-2 mph for a good day is more like it unless you got some modifications you havent mentioned.

Great looking boat though and has alot to offer in the cabin

I think he might be right with low 80's. Mine will do 78 GPS day after day with 500's. The Daytona has extension boxes and a lighter hull and should give you a few extra miles per hour.

Hate to disappont you. These are real speeds. I have two GPS speedometers in the boat. One Gaffrig Performance and one Livorsi (Gaffrig Precission). Also have triple checked the speed with a handheld. All read about the same 83/84. The Daytona package makes a nice difference.
