Predator Power Boats
Hi Guys, questions that someone may be able to help me with? I am looking to move into a 30ft or so cat, read great articles on AMT back in Powerboat magazines i think they did 2 or 3 reviews? As I understand these or something similar is now built by Predator Power Boats which have a couple of good reviews within this site, does anyone have any helpful information on these with approx costs for a new boat ex engines, also recommendations on motors would be good, mixed reviews on 300xs, boat will be used here in the UK just offshore and occasional cross channel run, looking for something nice and safe for the family we have 2 little guys aged 6 and 2 so im thinking 75/80 is plenty quick enough for us, that was my thinking for the 225xs im not sure we can still get 2.5's over here in the UK now. One point I was looking to get answered is the handling of these, are they pretty safe and do they handle well, I have read about hopping and other scary terms in the spectre website, I have seen the DW upclose back in November down at the powerboat racing in Key West, probably out of my price range at the moment, hence the thoughts on a 30ft AMT which appear to have threads on this site.
Many thanks in advance for anwers, kind regards Simon. |
I owned a 30 AMT with 280s. It was a great running boat. Fast and great handling. Arnoldo at Predator builds a solid boat too. I think the 30 with 300s would be a ton of fun.

Go with the 300xs. great motors, user friendly and very cost effective.
Do not go with any other engine package. Dan |

Do not go with any other engine package. Dan If you want a complete boat I would sell mine complete. Still has 18 months on warranty and runs really strong. http://www.offshoreonly.com/classifi...o32085-en.html |
Are you looking for a canopy cat or open ?
A canopy is much safer but not sure if I would be putting a 2 year old in the back of my AMT 30. These boats are great. We won the Australian championship in ours. We had to do some serious hull and tank work when it arrived from the States but now its Bullet proof. It held the 2004 speed record when Bryan Haunt owned it at 118 mph I believe the new DW 32 do that now but not bad for a 30 ft boat using 2004 props. Check it out if you like. http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-fo...aspx?R=7588630 It was built as a race boat, not a poker run boat so has re enforced canopy and roll bars, but still has room for two more seats. Like I said Great boats. Mat |
It is also the 2006 Class 2 OPA, OSS, POPRA Merrick World Cup Champion.

LIke I said. Great Boats.

Hey Just thinking. If it doesn't sell I am thinking of maybe putting a pair of 200xs mercs on it to run in the Australian 400hp offshore class. It would be slightly heavy at 1800kg but I think it should still be nicely balanced.
Any idea on how it might go ? My fear is it would not get the speed to promote enough lift ? Just cant quite bring my self to rebuild the 2.5 280's. Great engines but in a Factory HP class they are down on Torque compared with the 300x and XS. Do love those 2 strokes however. Any help or comments appreciated. Thanks Mat |
Hey Simon, where abouts in the UK are you? I have a Spectre 30 in Southampton, pair of 225 promax's, runs a solid 90mph. Once the season warms up your welcome to come and have a ride.

Thank you...
Good afternoon Mat
Many thanks for your reply, appreciate comments but not looking for top speed just a day boat that will fit us all in and get us from A2B safely, i guess these handle the chop well, but having never been in a Cat I was a little unsure on how they cope with 3/4ft chop offshore, we do have the odd flat day over here but not many. Experience to date has been in a 21ft Ring, Deep V with 225 on the back... Best regards, Simon
