DW Flats boat

Pics from DW Jr today. After the green kote is applied, the putty is applied. These 2 coats are applied to prepare the female mold for milling, to cut using 5-axis CNC, into a smoother surface. The male plug build is bypassed to save time and to lower the cost of the build.

The 5-axis CNC machine has been busy. shown here is the milling of the DW Flats Boat The bow area has still the rough putty, where as the areas astern has been milled. This process continues with finer CNC (drill) bits till the Wright Engineers are satisfied. When objects are designed utilizing CNC machines, the objects, when completed, are perfectly symmetrical, as opposed to building an object using our eyes for approximating the object's symmetrical characteristic https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4315/...4e3b0f0d_k.jpg |
.
After the milling of the putty, a guide coat is applied (purple dye) to create a sanding limit https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4299/...7c00a968_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4316/...bca131f4_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4310/...a27b07a8_b.jpg |
.
The hull mold is complete...the deck mold (seen in the background) has been milled https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4329/...9b196bfa_b.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4329/...eab5c8ff_h.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4321/...26141ae7_b.jpg |
.
The deck has been milled and coated. Getting ready for putty application then CNC machine again with finer and finer CNC (drill) bits https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4322/...80614321_k.jpg The hull will be sanded down to 2000 grit, then gel https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4311/...07ae3174_k.jpg |
