Replacing Lower Shift Cable

how hard is it to replace lower shift cable on bravo drive?any special tools required?can anyone outline the steps after taking the drive off?

To install shift cable properly, you can follow the instructions in the service manual, if you have one. Note that you must have the shift cable adjusting tools or you won't be able to adjust it properly.

I replaced mine thinking that it would be cake. Removing the portion that went through the bellhousing was a nightmare. Sometimes they seize in there and have to be drilled. I don't know what they make the brass looking part out of, but it was incredibly difficult to drill. I was using a brand new cobalt bit and had a very difficult time. They aren't always like that, or so I hear. Upon re-installation, make sure that you route the cable in a way that it won't touch the coupler. That's what wasted mine in the first place. I didn't have the adjustment tool but didn't have any problem getting it adjusted. In the end, could be easy or not.

When I did mine, I had the adjustment of the cable totally screwed up. So I bought the Mercrusier shift adjustment tool and that really helped.

Where can I get the bravo cable adjustment tool #91-12427 and the Alpha drive shift shaft stabilizer tool #91-809815A1?
What are the prices? Also, thanks for the info about the on-line manual. It gives a better step by step on the adjustments. :D

I did mine last year and it was not so easy. My old cable was a bummer to remove as it was tangled up down near the bell housing. Once old one was out, new one installed pretty easy. Merc tool makes it easy.
