What is this part called????
My buddies kid knocked my old drive over and the 2 "teeth" I have outlined in yellow broke off. Is this part replaceable and if so what is it called? I looked on Bam's site but couldn't locate it....

There's no need to replace it. Those teeth are only there so that you can put the wrench on it. Replace it next time it has to come apart.

Cool....Thanks O&T that sounds good to me.....

uh - I don't mean to be ...... but that corrosion on the u joint says to me you have bigger problems. Don't even think about installing that drive without checking the gimbal bearing & u joints.

I have already cleaned all the outside parts and I am going to open the drive and check it out this week. The gimbal bearings were only 2 months old when Katrina hit and they only had about 6 hours on them. They should be good. Thanks Mbam.....

That is called a pinion bearing retainer nut.. Merc calls it a Ring Nut.. Here is what you should replace it with.. I sent you a pm on it.. Chuck.

That looks like the original style that was used on late 60's Merc. drives to about 1971 or so. I guess the bean counters wanted to save money and discontinued making them out of brass.
