Borg/Warner Velvet no reverse?
Been a while since I last used the boat.
I'm able to go forward but not reverse? Transmission does not engage in reverse? Checked the linkage and the control is putting the transmission control in the correct position. I had the motor pulled and then the transmision. Upon doing so we had transmission fluid dripping from the back seal. Can anyone recommend a good transmission shop in S. Florida? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.. |

You said it was dripping oil. Did you overfill it when you put oil back in ? Never put too much oil in a velvet drive because it will make them slip. Every year when i change it in my Mastercraft i would pump it out with a hand pump and pour 2 qts. back in. Last year i didn't get it all out and it was 1/4" over full and it slipped. I pumped a small cup full out to get it 1/4" below full and it hasn't slipped again.

Check the oil for metal, the most common failure is exploding the reverse plates radially. Happens from a high RPM shift or too much throttle in reverse. We use a special plate that won't do that. We also add an extra clutch. They stil have limited capacity in reverse, see a few just wear out the frictions backing the boat off the trailer. It's helps a lot make sure the hull is in the water at least a little bit first :)
