Stuck Drive?
I can't get the verticle shaft out. It's stuck. Must have gotten water into the bellows and froze it up. Any suggestions on this? My builder tried tapping it out...no luck? Should we heat it up? Could this be something more? Please say no!

Call the bravo shop and ask for Dean, they are in ft myers. Tell him I told you to call. You can also call Aaron at Max Machine. There has to be a trick to it. This can't be the first time its ever happen. Good Luck

Are you talking about the vertical shaft in the lower? I can't see how the bellows has anything to do with the vert shaft. Mine was tough to get out but I did get it out. I am pretty sure that it was somewhere in the spacer that it was tight coming out of the housing. You did take the nut off of the gear..right? I don't think that I would use heat on it. I gently grabbed the spacer with pliers and pried it out. Shaft came out fine after that. BTW mine was a Bravo.

Or are you talking about the input shaft being stuck in the coupler/transom assy??

Yes...sorry.
Then slowly lift the drive upwards and slam it downwards against the pin, this usually pulls the drive out and will sometimes even pull the gimbal bearing out too. If the gimbal bearing race gets stuck on the shaft, dismantle the bearing so only the race is left on the shaft, heat it up, then use a tie-rod separater. |
