Bravo 1 XR Rebuild

HI Guys,

Had both drives on my boat rebuilt by very reputable Mercury Racing Certified shop. All new bearings and gearsets. Changed drive oil after first 10 hrs, everything looked great. Dust only on magnets, oil (Merc HP Gearlube)still green/blue color like new oil. After changing oil, first time out 1 hour run, alarm goes off for low oil, takes about 1/2 pint to top off bottle, 1/2 hour later after easy run, 1/4 pint down. Lots of Clean Drive Oil in the bilge. I cleaned all the oil up and tried to find a leak next time out. No leak, but oil in the bilge again. Had mechanic pressure check bottle and hose, no leak, pulled drive off and no internal leak. Drained oil and it was black and burned. What's happening here? Any ideas, bad bearing, gearset? Having drive removed and torn down ASAP.

Thanks,

Mark

Mark,
have them check to see if the new style retainer and seal are used on the input shaft. If it is the old seal retainer, it will leak into the bellows.. If it ran too low it could heat it up and burn the oil. But a tear down is a good call.

Hope this helps.

Do you have the P/N for this? On one of my drives this was replaced under warranty. I want to get the other side done.

Thanks

If no leaks and no oil in bellows. Than the drive is going out on you. It could be in the lower or in the upper. you won't know untill you take the drive apart. Sounds like you need some professionsl help here. Please call me at; 954 237 0332.
I'm sure I can help you out.

Assuming you have XR drives, this should be what you need to upgrade the seal. Part 26

Yes.. I assumed we were talking about XR drives. The part number for the upgrade kit is 11-841026A2.

Hope this helps.
