Mercruiser shift interupter question

Just bolted on the new style shift interupter, complete unit, plate and all, the one with the plunger style switch vs the old style and was curious if I am supposed to hear the motor momentarilary cut out when shifting in and out of gear both forward and reverse when on the muffs? Have not water tested it yet and was curious if under a load made a difference?

It is set properly at 6" as required in the spec's. Thanks in advance for replys.

Put it in gear then try to take it out of gear. If the switch is working properly it will come out of gear. Its been so long since I have had an Alpha I can not remember. I only remember with it did not work and I rammed the dock

It may not on a hose since there is no load on prop. I expect you could manually check the switch by hand to ensure its is wired properly. Retest at ramp before you remove for trailer.

The switch is working for sure, was just wondering if anyone had info regarding how it should perform on the muffs vs: the water. Thanks.

Without a load it shouldn't hit the interrupt switch unless you have a bad shift cable. It only does it under load because the clutch dog is pushed up against the gear, and puts tension on the shift cable which in turn activates the intrerrupt switch.

hey z9er!
in and out on both muf/h2o, the only snag i've found so far is that my new (not stock) gaffrig throttle/shifters throw a bit too far, so i have to shift gingerly or it'll throw past the switch and stall, and at a 50 percent/ low water/ tilt, my c/r drive doesn't shift into forward..regularly..
..however, the entire mechanism works 100% better than the old..no fighting to get out of gear...i just need to dial it in..
hope this helps..
