Weismann Drives
Any one out there running these yett or they still just testing

I was real interested in them about a year ago as an upgrade but they weren't terribly interested in getting back to me at the time. I think they were pretty successful on the Lucas Oil Scarab but I don't believe they have made a push to retail them. I am guessing they were ruled out of the class they were running to keep it strictly Merc.
They are damn good looking pieces. |
I think trident deck boats offers them as an option....it was some deck boat company out there.
|
Trident does offer them, but has not yet built a boat with one.
|
25 thousand i think it costs. :)
|
I have them on my 40 skater and i love them. They are pretty bullet proof. But the big drawback is weisman is not good on returning phone calls at all.
|
Got any pics? Did you rig it?
|
same price as a #6..dont forget to add the transom assembly and tranny.

Even with potential new customers (post #2). Is his main business Baja truck trannies? Isn't there another tranny outfit in San Diego that was going to develop an indestructable Bravo? |
Fortin in el cajon was working on a bravo replacement drive.Penske and Illmor marine will be debuting their bravo replacements any day now.

It would be great to have a true super duty outdrive that is a direct replacement for a bravo.( not having to move the motor snd such) Darrell. |

Its my understanding that they are not using merc parts. They are a fully redesigned unit and the penske one is a two speed with neutral and reverse.

We are in negotiations for the production of our drives.
The WSD drive is being redone in the gimbal section to accept the newer gimbal of the WMD drive (lack of KAAMA style boot) common parts between the drives Gimbal/boot/trim and steering. We are currently finishing the WXX drive. It will be running before the end of the year. We have been concentrating on the transmission part of the package for most of this year. We have several multi-speed projects that are completed or nearing completion as well as the FNR transmission/multi-speed. Our focus has been on having a complete package (engine/transmission/drive/propeller) for the customer. When we have all of the elements in place and proper testing is done then we will offer everything to the public. With the experience we gained from projects like (Skater40) we learned how important the complete package is to the performance of the boat. The overall set-up has been drastically changed from when the boat had 6 drives on it. His boat is still evolving (the gear ratio is done) :ernaehrung004: Larry and Jeff have been great to work with (Larry's Engine) We are not trying to ignore anyone we are just very, very busy. Sorry Gary. Stay tuned. pat W |
I hope a swap out conversion for bravos is part of you business plan.
I know why you need complete packages, but a lot of us don't need that, just a fix to our weak link. |
Would a Weismann drive fit on an Imco extension box? I have room for a trans in my engine compartment. Would be great to just pull off the XR and put on the Weismann. Wouldn't mind adding an adapter if neccesary. Would be an amazing combo with an ilmor 710. Willing to be a test boat if needed.
|
Weismann partner with Illmor? Is this Illmors new drive they say they have coming? Thanks, Cam-shaft
|
Ilmor did their own thing.
It made sense for us to work with them but there was and still are some people involved with Ilmor that have their own agenda. I have looked very closely at the bravo problem. It is a catch 22. I designed an upper to replace what fails first. Then I looked at the lower and then the gimbal. All too week throw everything out start all over. We did replace a 4x4 without moving the motor/transmission. We removed everything outside the transom and used the steering rams. The project was fairly simple,ha. The problem I had with the project was the original set-up. It was wrong. I know that there is a better set-up for the boats that are out there. I have stopped other projects because I did not agree with the set-up and I regret the ones I did not wade in on. The problem with the Bravo drive starts with people trying to over power the unit. It was not designed for 300 plus hp. When people have big power on them they are careful. When you give them a drive that can take the power they are no longer careful. The boat needs to be a complete system. We are working on a complete system. Jassman, our drive is one piece gimbal and drive. When we quoted you it was that way. It is not being priced to compare with a 6. When you get an accurate quote for the cost of a 6drive and a 6 gimbal let me know. It seems to vary who you ask. pat W |

I reread the post twice. By complete package do mean with power or drive plus transom assembly and steering? I don't want an engine, just a drive/transom assembly. |

We removed the 4x4 standoff because our drive has a vertical zero transom angle and a large footprint.
I was talking about engine/trans/drive. To make a drive replace a bravo or trs or 3,4,5,6 ect... It needs to have the same x dim all of those are different. I do not know if they will offer it separate but I think it makes good sense to do that. The WMD drive is a little overkill for a bravo type boat. It was designed for diesels and big hp gas motors. We did a design (bravo type no transmission 800hp)for that and it will be a part of what we will offer, It will be up to the production company for when they want to bring it out. I will keep you posted on when we start running that drive. Thanks for the compliments on the WMD drive. pat W |
Kamma
Pat W. You talk about the Kamma boot etc. Can Kamma parts be found or are you using the term in a general way ? First time I ever saw your drive was, I would like to say 6-7 yrs ago down in Key West it is "Outstanding" best of luck with all of your designs and lets go racing and beat the black.:violent-smiley-045: Jay "84" 33-Sutphen "I'CE SCREAM" Kamma Drives luv'em.
|
If my memory serves me correctly they use the same boot as the Kaama drive.
|
There are still parts available for the Kaama drive through Archer Marine. 949-646-9778 We re-made the tail (prop cover) recently. Someone on OSO made the tooling again for the boot but I have not heard if they tried one yet.
The kamma was designed by my father and the WSD was designed by my father and me before he passed away. He wanted me to use the Kaama boot because it was already done. Since then the tooling disappeared and we could not get boots so we changed the pattern for the casting to accept the new boot of the WMD. pat W |
If you need help with a boot design let me know.

Just frustraiting. Logic escapes most people.
The funny part is were we ended up with our engine program. You will see soon. pat W |
Pat, Do you convert wet six drives to dry at your shop and if you do what would a ballpark price be for a pair? I would like to have my drives converted by a local company, local meaning within 500 miles of Sacramento. Thanks Doug

Doug,
Call Vern 310 995 1670, Platinum Boats. I have turned that part of my business over to him. He is in Torrance California. pat W |
Thanks for the reply. I will contact him. Doug

I have a boot that i would be more than willing to give someone if the can GUARANTEE that they could make a mold or something out the one i give so all of us Kaama guys have some spares. |
The end of the Kaama drive , I was told, was when the molds were sold and the buyer sank them in New York harbor. I do not know why.
