what happens when you reverse the prop

I just had to replace a bravo one on the port side the prop that came off 32 pitch 4 blade rh that is standard rotation.my question is why would this be on the port side verses the starboard side. what would happen if i re versed them?

by having the r/h prop on the port and the l/h prop on the starboard, you get more stern lift so more boat is out of the water = faster mph. Atleast that is my understanding of it.

If your Fountain is a step bottom boat they swing in, rh prop on port side. if you reverse them the boat with handle different probably not better. Bravos can rotate either direction all other drives you must change the drives to change rotation.

and if you run TRS you'll burn the transmission! DONT DO THIS!!

Since you run Bravo...no problemo!

I would keep the rotation the same way you currently have them. Mine turn in, and have been told they are a little faster that way. I haven't tried back to back tests.

What controls the rotation on a Bravo? Are the drives geared to turn inward on the Fountain setups? In other words, if I wanted to try having the props turn outward I would need to swap the drives? Or simply swap the props?

Just the props on bravos the drives on all others

Swap props and change shift cables. If you're just going for a quick test run and don't want to bother with the shift cables you can leave them but now forward will be reverse...so you need to shift them both in reverse to go forward.... You'll have to "think" everytime you shift to make sure you don't run into the dock.....:D

Spinning props in may help with top speed but may also hurt slow speed manuverability and may also make the boat handle like crap in rough water.

I found the step bottoms and straight bottoms react very different to prop rotation and the best way to find out is to test it.

Ok, makes sense. Thanks guys.

Marylandmark -don't swap yours your gearcases won't like it.
You can only do that with bravos.
