Sea Strainer
 

I have a bravo one drive with lower ports for water intake. I'm getting alot of sand and stuff into my cooling system. Which is causing a overheating issues when I go out. I was told that a Sea Strainer would help this problem. I was just wondering if this is correct and how many of you are actually using one. The other alternative is to replace my lower case.

It wont necessarily eliminate all of the sand, but they do cut down on it. I have installed many before & am installing one currently in my new boat. :) Jamie / Lakeside

I think sand passes right through a strainer, I believe changing where you pick up the water will help you more.

also try not to venture into these low waters.

Buy a 'sand' strainer. New product, sorry, don't know who is selling them. But I seen them advertised in the last power boat mag. They use an actualy filter cartridge, rather than a screen.

Jeff, I believe they are for intercoolers & they are made by hardin.. I dont think they would flow enough for an engine.. Unless we are thinking about different units.. Jamie / Lakeside

Trick Marine sells sand strainers. I boat in a shallow,mud, sand,etc, area. Kept ruining Merc plastic pump housings everytime I went boating and filling motors with mud and sand. Purchased 2 of the 12" models for my 575HP'S from Fred at Trick Marine. I think they were made in England. He also has aluminum replacement housings to convert merc plastic pump housing. I think they are KPM? Both are made by the same people.Stainers have red scotch pad filter material. They work great and will stop sand and mud. See trickmarine.com or call Fred.
