T/As and gimbals, Std Bravo, HP, Diesel
 

What's the difference? If I have to buy new/refurb, any reason I "shouldn't" get better than standard? My personal scenario right now would be my 311: 500hp or less/side, enough flight to warrant it a factor, mechanical indicators and little desire/need for tilt limits.

No input on the differences between these pieces? John the drive man, Mobilemercman, ?

I recommend the HP Gimble on any boat that is used for HP use!! I broke a standard gimble at 83mph and felt the effects for years. "There is going to a be violent reaction when ever the gimble breaks." That is what I was told by Merc.. They also said that due to casting methods the HP gimble is stronger. That was 12 yrs ago, so I have no idea if that statement holds true today.
A well maintained standard gimble will go along way, but I will not use anything but a HP on my boat. I run it too hard to take another chance. I used up one of my free passes with that accident years ago.. fate was the only thing that kept me and a rider from being killed..
The main differnence between the two gimbles is the hing pins. The standard has the pins screwed into the bellhousing and the HP has pins bolted to the gimble that ride on bushings in the bellhousing.
If you do air time at all.. I would recommend it. But then I a bit biased, skimming death once too often..

Thanks Dick for chiming in; all info helps :D I know the price difference to get the HP makes it a no-brainer, but I guess I'm looking for more detail of the differences, so I can think about how it effects my effort to rebuild/repair/replace...entire TA & gimbal, just gimbal, just TA...
Nobody talks about the diesel Bravo, but even if it's "useless trivia" I just like to know what's out there.

The only difference between a diesel transom and the standard one is the decals.

There are more differences in stock vs High perf gimbal rings.
On a newer style ring the U bolt was thicker and was machined square without the scalloping in the upper pin area.
Also I know that Hp rings are supposed to be made from a stronger alloy, and they are beefed up in the lower support area.
