I think its a Sternmaster. From what I'm told its a strong drive.

got different answers every time. whatever it is, nobody know for sure.
make? model? thanks |
Looks like a SternPowr. They have been around for some time, make a solid drive and have had several government contracts to provide bulletproof outdrives for the military. As I understand it, the gears are in a total oil bath and they hold gallons of oil and not quarts.
Try www.sternpowr.com for more info. |
drive
It's a stern power. JOHN
|
i believe they use gears similiar to a dana 44 differential. and are very strong from what i ve been told, just not to many parts and guys who know them.
|
Go to the sternpower site and get the phone number. Ask for Dennis who is the owner of sternpower now. He will give you a contact that has a bunch of parts for the old stuff and info on the drive. Very helpful.
I'm looking at a boat that has twin sternpowers on it. I've heard that they are very tough. The early ones had a weak link because they were mechanically shifted. That one looks to be a newer one. |
I own this boat for 9yrs , finally know what kind of drive it is.
thanks ppl. |

Gears are tough its the gimble and trim that may give you trouble. From what I've seen. I only saw them with trannies.
