Removing transom assembly?
I have a 1987 formula 223LS with 454 mag and alpha drive. I want to pull the drive and go through it and also want to pull the transom assembly cause I have a leak. I noticed that the transom assembly is also the rear motor mount, how do you hold engine in place when removing the transome assembly? It needs some sort of support I would imagine.

gotta pull the engine out first

UUGGHHHHHH I was afraid I'd here that-chit this is gonna suck.

Yep. get to work....you've got a long dat ahead! :D

I can feel the love :hitfan:

So long as there is space for the engine to come out complete it is real easy. it can be done in less than an hour. if you have a leak around the transom you will want the engine out anyway to allow inspection and most likely repair of the transom.

FYI: We pulled an engine to replace the repair a l;eak in the transom assembly a few months ago. Pulle everything and had it back together and running in about 6 hours (4 guys)

Do you really need to pull the motor to find a leak. You might want to check the bellows first and go from there. i woouldnt pull it to just pull it. Unless yo think that the transom assembly is bad or transom?

I had an alpha in my boat with a 454 and it was leaking in where the hydraulic lines went through the transom assy.

Water coming in on bottom of transom assembly. Gasket must be bad. Oh well motor can use a paint job anyhow
